The biennial 2023 Shanghai Auto Show officially kicked off on April 18. This is also the first international A-level auto show this year.
In terms of the scale of the exhibition, this year’s Shanghai Auto Show opened 13 indoor exhibition halls in the National Convention and Exhibition Center (Shanghai), with a total exhibition area of more than 360,000 square meters, attracting more than 1,000 mainstream auto brands, and a total of more than 1,500 exhibited cars. Among them, more than 150 new cars were released for the first time.
New energy vehicles become the absolute main force
According to Zhou Minhao, chairman of the Shanghai Municipal Council for the Promotion of International Trade, among the more than 150 models released for the first time at this year’s Shanghai Auto Show, about two-thirds of the models are new energy vehicles.
In this auto show, BYD brand (Ocean, Dynasty) released three new models, among them, the Song L concept car, which is the world’s premiere on Dynasty.com, is positioned as a new B-class pure electric SUV; Ocean.com’s first B+ class super-hybrid sedan destroyer 07 debuted, with a price range of 200,000 to 250,000 CNY, and will be launched in the third quarter of this year; Seagull, a pure electric mobility model under Oceannet, opened pre-sales at a starting price of 78,800 CNY; look up to its products equipped with Yisifang and Yuncar The U8, U9 and Yangwang architecture with a number of new technologies were officially unveiled. Among them, Yangwang U8 started pre-sale at a price of 1.098 million CNY; Denza showed its medium and large five-seat hunting SUV N7 and the Denza D9 Founding Edition simultaneously. Denza N7 is now available for pre-order.
For BAIC Motor, ARCFOX officially released two new models, Alpha S Forest Edition and Alpha T Forest Edition; Chery Exeed brand also released two models based on Chery E0X pure electric platform – Star Era ET and Star Era ES; Oraev’s 2023 Ora Ballet cat is officially launched, becoming the first model under Oraev to fully implement the 1080° female safety structure. It has added 22 new configurations such as wind and wave mode 2.0, heat pump air conditioner, and V2L external discharge system. The price range is 149,800 to 179,800 CNY; Deepal also participated in the exhibition independently for the first time, and unveiled its first SUV model Deepal S7 at this Shanghai Auto Show, forming a twin star product matrix with its first sedan Deepal SL03. The new car offers three power options: pure electric, extended range, and hydrogen fuel. The pure electric version has a maximum cruising range of 620km. It is reported that the Deepal S7 will be launched in mid-2023, when Deepal Auto will release the Deepal Auto Strategy. According to the plan, before 2025, Deepal Auto will launch a total of 6 products, and strive to achieve a production and sales breakthrough of 1 million within five years.
Not only that, new car-making forces represented by NIO Motors, Xpeng Motors, Li Auto Motors, HYCAN Motors, Skywell Motors, etc. have also released their new pure electric models. Xpeng Motors brought its first model XpengG6 on the Franklin platform; NIO’s new ES6 made its debut and officially released the 2023 NIO ET7, and the two new cars are scheduled to be delivered in late May and mid-May 2023; Skywell cars were released at the same time 2023 models Skywell HT-i Ⅱ, Skywell EV6 Ⅱ and 2023 SKYWELL EU 620 enjoy three pure electric models; HYCAN Auto released the new car interior of its first new pure electric flagship MPV model V09, which is the first standard 800V The mass-produced MPV of the high-voltage system can achieve the fastest charging of 5 minutes and increase the battery life by 200km.
The determination of multinational car companies and joint venture brands to transform into electrification is also vividly reflected in this Shanghai Auto Show. For example, the BMW Group participated in the exhibition with an all-electric lineup for the first time, and the world’s first innovative pure electric BMW i7 M70L; The INCEPTION concept car built on the STLA Large platform in the new electrification platform series of “-design” ushered in its Asian debut to show the brand’s future electrification design direction; Nissan’s Max-Out and Arizona concept cars also appeared at the Shanghai Auto Show The first show was completed in China, among which the Arizona was designed by Chinese designers, specially designed to meet the travel needs of Chinese consumers. Car companies scramble to lay out the plug-in hybrid field
Plug-in hybrid models have also become another commanding height for major car companies to compete for layout. The Haval, Tank, and WEY brands of Great Wall Motor all brought their new plug-in hybrid models to the auto show. Among them, two plug-in hybrid models under the Haval brand, Haval Xiaolong and Haval Xiaolong MAX, ushered in the debut. Xiaolong MAX will be equipped with Hi4 intelligent four-wheel drive electric hybrid technology for the first time; Tank 400 PHEV debuted, equipped with Hi-T plug-in Hybrid system; WEY brand’s latest Lanshan DHT-PHEV and the first MPV model – Alpine DHT-PHEV also ushered in the debut.
Chery Automobile even brought Tiggo 9 C-DM, TJ-1C-DM, Arrizo 8 C-DM and other plug-in hybrid products to the Shanghai Auto Show, and launched the concept car ARRIZO Star. The new car will be equipped with Chery’s next-generation Kunpeng super-performance electric Hybrid C-DM; Jiangqi Group also launched its first plug-in hybrid SUV model QX PHEV.
In addition, the centralized release of passenger pickup truck models has also become another highlight of the Shanghai Auto Show. Great Wall Cannon’s Shanhai Cannon long-range PHEV and HEV versions based on the off-road super hybrid architecture, as well as models based on the 6×6 off-road platform ushered in the first show at the auto show;

Multinational car companies are also accelerating their deployment in the plug-in hybrid market. At this year’s Shanghai Auto Show, Toyota‘s RAV4 Rongfang smart plug-in dual-engine model debuted for the first time. The new car is equipped with the fifth-generation THS hybrid system; Electric hybrid system; Lamborghini brand launched the first V12 hybrid plug-in super sports car – Lamborghini Revuelto.
