At BYD’s 2022 annual financial report meeting not long ago, Wang Chuanfu confidently stated that “the sales volume of 3 million units this year is a certainty, and we will strive to double it to 3.6 million.”
Although this target has been lowered than the previous 4 million vehicles, if BYD can achieve it, it will hopefully surpass Volkswagen and become China’s largest automaker.
In this context, BYD will naturally aim at the mainstream market with the largest market share. Among them, the launch of the new medium-sized car Destroyer 07 is the most ruthless blow to the traditional fuel-fueled medium-sized car market.
At present, within the BYD brand, it is mainly divided into two major distribution networks: Ocean and Dynasty. Among them, Dynasty models generally provide both pure electric version and DM-i plug-in hybrid version, such as Han EV and its DM-i version.
On the other hand, the ocean is in the different types of pure electric and plug-in, corresponding to the ocean series and the warship series respectively. Among them, the destroyer 05 and frigate 07 in the warship series, it is not difficult for us to find the identity of the prototype vehicles in the Qin DM-i and Tang DM-i in Dynasty.
There is no doubt that Destroyer 07 is a DM-i plug-in hybrid model. However, compared with the appearance of Destroyer 05 and Frigate 07, which are too close to their prototypes, Destroyer 07 began to emphasize its marine product identity attributes this time.
Therefore, the new car follows the seal’s headlight design with hooks and the muscular ridgeline of the front cover, and also leaves the banner grille shape of the warship series. The whole car looks like a seal without losing its youthful and sporty feel.

Although the new car adopts a seal-like design and is officially positioned as a medium-sized car, the actual Destroyer 07 is not simply transformed from a seal, and there is still a certain gap between the two sizes.
Destroyer 07 has measurements of 4980x1890x1495mm and a wheelbase of 2900mm, and its body size is more in line with the medium and large Han. Based on the current warship series products, it still has some shadows of Dynasty series models. Therefore, in the case of similar product shapes and lagging launch nodes, it is difficult for the market performance of the Warship series to perform as stunningly as the prototypes of the Dynasty series.

For example, Haval has the second-generation Big Dog plug-in hybrid version, the upcoming Xiaolong and Xiaolong MAX , In addition, Geely has also produced the Galaxy L7, and Changan‘s deepal S7 is also ready to go, which shows that established car companies have long been eyeing this level of market.
With BYD ushering in more rivals, the impact of the market price war is not diminished. This is because the recent Buick E5, which is a medium and large SUV, is directly priced at just over 200,000 CNY. At the same time, Nio and Xpeng G9, which had a tougher attitude before, have also released relatively large discounts, so BYD is probably determined to make a strong response through the destroyer 07.
In this regard, Destroyer 07, on the one hand, continues to use the 1.5T DM-i plug-in hybrid system that is consistent with Han. Although the official did not provide specific power parameters, it revealed that the zero-hundred-hundredth data of the new car is the same as Han DM-i in 7.9 seconds. , It is estimated that the maximum power of the motor of Destroyer 07 will be 145kW as that of Han DM-i.
It should be noted that in addition to the single-motor version of the Han DM-i that breaks 100 in 7.9 seconds, the car also provides a four-wheel drive DM-p version that breaks 100 in 3.7 seconds.
However, referring to BYD’s current statement that the destroyer 07’s fastest acceleration to 100 kilometers is 7.9 seconds, the new car may not provide a higher-end four-wheel drive DM-p version.
Without considering the high-end market, Destroyer 07 chose the opposite development direction. The new car will provide a 1.5L model that Han DM-i does not have.
Among them, the official mentioned that the 1.5L DM-i version of Destroyer 07 has a fuel consumption of only 3.9L/100km, and the time to break to 100km is only 8.2 seconds. The overall performance is still superior to other traditional fuel-fueled medium-sized vehicles.
On this basis, what impresses users the most is the DM-i’s plug-in hybrid feature of fuel and electricity. BYD revealed that the Destroyer 07 will provide two different battery life versions under NEDC conditions of 121 kilometers and 200 kilometers. Among them, the mid-size car positioning based on the Destroyer 07 must be different from the mid-to-large car class of the Han, so this time the official pointed out that the Destroyer 07 will become the only plug-in hybrid model in the mid-size car market that provides a pure electric range of 200 kilometers.
It is not difficult to see that this time Destroyer 07 is indeed riveting.
Considering that Destroyer 07 launched a more entry-level 1.5L DM-i version and actively positioned it as a medium-sized car, it may be that the price of the new car is more favorable. In addition, based on the recent pricing of the new Han EV, the starting price of the new car is 209,800 CNY, which is lower than the starting price of 217,800 CNY for the 2022 DM-i version.
Since BYD dares to make such a heavy hand on the new Han EV with a higher battery cost, does it mean that the Han DM-i that will be remodeled and the Destroyer 07 that is going to be launched will have more room for pricing? After the Destroyer 07 has a 1.5L entry-level version, the car can actually be played freely at the price level. However, according to BYD’s recent habit of adjusting the guide price when launching new models, the Destroyer 07 in the early stage can launch an attack with the mentality of trying.
If the new car is sold at around 180,000 CNY, it will be able to stand a distance from the Hanla with a higher positioning, and it will also be more accessible to the people than the gasoline-electric hybrid models of the Accord and Camry. In addition, considering that the new generation of Accord will push the plug-in hybrid version, whether the Destroyer 07 can give the opponent a blow at the price level will also be a major attraction in the market.
Although various brands are now devoting themselves to the plug-in hybrid product line, most of the new products launched are mainly SUVs, while sedans are still rare. Considering that deepal SL03, Nezha S and Changan UNI-V iDD, which are currently mainly plug-in hybrid cars, all advocate a sporty route. At this time, the Destroyer 07, which pushes the leapfrog size and rides comfortably, may be able to win the favor of more users in the family car market.
